match_required
Whether a match is required — stored as three states, with no default.
match_required says whether the programme requires the recipient to
contribute money alongside the award.
It is a tri-state with no default: required, not required, or unstated. That is the most important thing on this page. A boolean defaulting to false would print "no match needed" on every record nobody has read, and a match requirement discovered after an application is written is the single most expensive surprise in grant seeking.
The matching wizard treats an unstated match as unknown rather than as satisfied, so a record never clears a filter on a field nobody confirmed.
Shown as: Match required — Yes, No, or Not stated. When absent: Not stated, which means the notice was silent and you must read it before budgeting. See also matching funds and cost share.
