How many opportunities in the catalogue name this funder.
linked_grants is the number of grant records in this catalogue whose funder
is this record. A record counts whatever its status, so this is a count of
what we hold about the funder, not of what is open today.
It is not a figure the funder reported. giving_count
is the number of grants a foundation disclosed on its tax return;
linked_grants is the number of opportunities we have attached to it. The two
answer different questions and are never shown under one label.
It is maintained where grant records move rather than computed on every page: when a record is written, or when duplicate funders are merged, the count is refreshed for each funder the record left or joined. A separate check re-derives every funder's count from the grant records and fails on any difference.
Shown as: a count under the funder's name in the funder directory, and the "Opportunities attributed" figure on a funder-type page, in mono with tabular figures. When absent: never absent. A funder with no linked opportunity reads 0, because zero records attached is a count, not a missing value.
