giving_total

giving_total is the sum of grants the funder paid across giving_years, read from the filing named in data_source.

It is history. It is not a budget, not a forecast, and not an amount available to apply for. On a community foundation much of it is donor-advised and was never competed; on an operating foundation most of the money funds the foundation's own programmes.

We publish no projection of future giving. A projection would be our arithmetic standing among figures that came from filings.

Shown as: Total giving, in mono with tabular figures, with its year. When absent: Not stated, never a zero. A zero would assert the funder gave nothing. See also payout requirement.
