Reading provenance and Not stated
The three things an empty field can mean, and how to tell which one you are looking at.
An empty cell in most grant databases means one of three different things, and the database does not tell you which. Here they are three different sentences.
Not stated
The source did not say. The notice is silent on this field, and the silence is the grantmaker's rather than ours. You have to read the notice before planning around it.
Not confirmed
We hold a value and have not verified it inside the freshness window. It is shown with its date, so you can decide whether the age matters for your purpose.
Not linked yet
The source says something and we have not connected it. This one is our gap and it is labelled as ours.

Why zero is never used
A zero is a value. Printing zero for an unstated award ceiling says the programme will award nothing; printing an empty list for unstated use of funds says nothing is restricted; printing false for an unstated match says no match is needed. Each of those is a claim no source made, and each is the kind that costs someone weeks.
