Alternatives to USAspending
People looking for an alternative to USAspending usually want one of three things: coverage it does not have, fields they can compare without reading a notice end to end, or a price that fits. Here is which of those we do, and where we would send you instead.
What USAspending is
The federal government's public record of what it actually spent — awards made, to whom, under which programme — free and available through a documented API.
Its published figures, checked 2026-09-07: top-tier agencies 111, award search history Back to 2007-10-01. Pricing runs access $0. Every one of those numbers comes from a page USAspending publishes about itself, not from a measurement of ours.
It is worth being direct about what it does well: It answers the question a listing of open opportunities cannot: who has already won this money, and how much.
Where USAspending states its own limits
- It is retrospective. Nothing in it tells you what is open now.
- Reporting lags, so the most recent months are incomplete by construction rather than by error.
- An award record is not the notice that award came from, so it does not tell you what the programme asked for.
These are constraints USAspending publishes about itself, not findings of ours. We do not write negatives about a product we have not audited.
If you need eligibility at a glance
This is the part worth paying for anywhere. Applicant type, geography, matching requirement and disbursement method are stored as fields here, so a match tells you which clauses agreed with your answers rather than returning a score you cannot audit.
A field the source did not state reads Not stated, and a field the source states that we have not connected reads Not linked yet. Those are different admissions and we keep them apart.
If you need to know how current it is
Every record here shows the date it was last confirmed against its source page, the domain it was checked against, and whether the check was automated or a human review. There is no confidence percentage anywhere on this site, because a record was either checked on a date or it was not.
Our crawl history is published in full on the data sources page, including the feeds we have not run yet. That page is uncomfortable to publish and it is the point.
When to stay with USAspending
If breadth today is what your search needs, USAspending has more records than we do and we are not going to argue otherwise. Our catalogue is early, and the data sources page says exactly how early rather than leaving you to find out.
If you need to file an application, use the grantmaker’s own system. We host no application forms and sit between nobody and a submission deadline.
